NEW MILFORD
POLICE DEPARTMENT
BICYCLE UNIT

THE NEW MILFORD POLICE BICYCLE UNIT was STARTED IN THE SPRING OF 2002 BY chief Frank papapietro TO INCREASE COMMUNITY RELATIONS WITH THE PUBLIC. Experience has shown that Bicycle Officers are an important tool in improving police-community relations because the officers are more accessible to citizens. Bicycle Officers can also provide a pro-active, highly visible police service along with giving officers a "stealth" advantage when desired. Bicycles allow officers access to areas not normally patrolled by police vehicles. Our BICYCLE UNIT IS A MAJOR PART OF the NMPD COMMUNITY POLICING UNIT UNDER THE DIRECTION OF LT. William MCGOVERN.
THE UNIT CURRENTLY HAS THREE TREK MOUNTAIN BIKES which were DONATED BY BROOKCHESTER
APARTMENTS, DORCHESTER APARTMENTS, Milford Arms AND
MILFORD ESTATES. OUR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS UTILIZE THE BIKES DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS AND SCHOOL VACATIONS. OUR PATROL OFFICERs UTILIZE THE BIKES WHEN able OR IF A SPECIAL NEED ARISES. You will DEFINITELY SEE BIKE OFFICERS AT most of NEW MILFORD'S OUTDOOR PARADES AND EVENTS. THE UNIT CURRENTLY HAS FIVE MEMBERS; SGT. O'MALLEY, DET. LONG, P.O. BISIG , P.O. HERRERO, P.O. CLANCY, AND P.O. PISANO. aLL six MEMBERs ARE CERTIFIED by the Law enforcement bicycle association and are active members in the International Police Mountain Bicycle Association. Please FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY OF THESE OFFICERS ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THE BIcycle UNIT or any other community concerns.
